My grandparents both proudly served in the Navy, and they carried those values of discipline, sacrifice, and service with them throughout their lives. Their example shaped who I am today. When I lost them, I felt a strong pull to honor their legacy in a way that continues serving others. One of my biggest regrets in life is not getting to know their story better. One of the things I know best about them is how willing they were to give back to their community. They participated in their local Veteran’s Association, volunteered in hospitals and animal shelters, and even took people in need into their home until they got back on their feet.
