Harvest and grape stomp season
Crush runs through fall and most of the wineries host some version of a stomp or harvest party. If you only do one valley thing this season, make it this one.

Local tip. Stomps sell out, sometimes weeks ahead. Check the winery’s own site rather than a third party listing, and go on a Sunday if you want the vineyard to yourself.
Pumpkins and corn mazes
Wine Country
Peltzer Farms
Family owned, pick your own pumpkins, plus pig races, pony rides, a train, gem panning, a corn maze, face painting and live music. This is the full day out.
Temecula
Big Horse Feed and Mercantile
Home of Southern California’s largest corn maze at more than eleven acres, with difficulty levels so it works for little kids and stubborn adults alike. Pumpkin patch on site.
October
Ghost tours in the vineyards
Several Wine Country properties run evening supernatural tours through October. Not for young kids, genuinely fun for everyone else.
Just outside the valley
Fallbrook Harvest Faire
About forty minutes south. Small town fall festival energy in the avocado capital.
Butterfield Stage Ranch Sage Harvest Festival
Local ranch harvest event, worth checking dates on if you like the working farm version of fall.

Before you go
Dates and hours move around, especially for the winery events, so confirm on the venue’s own site before you drive out. Everything here was checked when it was written, but the valley changes its mind about schedules more often than it should.
And the thing nobody tells you about fall here. The valley drops close to twenty degrees after sunset. Bring a jacket to every evening event, even the ones in September. You will be the only one who is comfortable.
